To the Dull Prohibitionist
(Take Me Higher)

If you like a drink, you’ll like a smoke,

and a line of coke won’t hurt you.

To enjoy the fruits of the cocoa tree

should be seen as a heavenly virtue.

Heroine should be perscribed for pain,

both physical and existential,

and for those whose days bring only rain,

or whom it is essential, and other stuff,

the stuff of dreams is still experimental.

Alcohol just gives a clue —

to where intoxicants can take you,

so raise your glass till you’ve had enough,

to sniff and puff till your happy.

Rail against this dull prohibition

and the beige stockinged bores up against you,

then tread upon the pleasured path

and let these gifts from God elate you.
